Vastu & Feng Shui Wall Art

Vastu artwork is the category where we get the most questions — and honestly, the most confusion. I'm Amit, and after 30 years of making Vastu art, here are the real answers, the way I give them on WhatsApp every day.

Vastu Wall Art — Your Questions Answered

Which direction should the seven running horses painting be hung?

The seven galloping horses belong on the south wall of your home or office — south governs fame and success in Vastu. The horses should run inward, into the house, never towards the exit, ideally on open ground. Avoid the bedroom and pooja room. This is the question we're asked most, and the direction matters more than any other detail — more on that in the myths section below.

Which painting is best for the main entrance as per Vastu?

Auspicious, welcoming imagery works best at the entrance — traditional motifs, florals, or nature scenes in bright, positive colours. In Vastu, the entrance is where energy and prosperity arrive, so keep dark, violent, or sorrowful imagery away from it. Think of it this way: the entrance artwork is the first thing your home says to everyone who walks in — including you.

Where should a waterfall or water painting be placed?

Water-element artwork — waterfalls, rivers, flowing streams — belongs on the north or northeast wall, the zone of wealth and career growth. The water should appear to flow into your home, not out of it. Avoid water scenes in the bedroom and on the south wall, where the water element conflicts with the fire direction.

Which paintings should be avoided in the bedroom as per Vastu?

Avoid water scenes, war or violent imagery, aggressive wild animals, and paintings of loneliness or sorrow in the bedroom. The bedroom should hold calm, pairing energy — artwork showing pairs, like love birds or Radha-Krishna on the southwest wall, is the traditional choice for harmony. We've made a lot of southwest-wall Radha-Krishna pieces over the years; there's a reason it never goes out of demand.

Where should a Buddha painting be placed in the home?

The northeast corner — the zone of spirituality and meditation — is ideal for Buddha artwork, and a Buddha facing the main entrance is considered welcoming and protective. Choose a calm, meditative Buddha for living spaces, and avoid placing Buddha artwork in bathrooms or near floor level. Height matters here: the Buddha should meet your eyes, not your knees.

Which paintings are considered inauspicious as per Vastu?

Vastu tradition advises against sinking ships, dry or dead trees, war and violence, crying or lonely figures, and ruins — imagery believed to hold stagnant energy. Choose abundance instead: blooming flowers, water flowing the right way, healthy greenery, open skies. A simple test we suggest: if an image makes you feel heavy when you look at it daily, it doesn't belong on your wall — Vastu or not.

What artwork is best for an office or study as per Vastu?

A mountain painting behind your seat symbolizes support and stability — it's the classic Vastu placement for anyone who sits facing others. Motivational and achievement art suits the south wall (fame), growth imagery like green landscapes suits the east, and the seven horses on the south wall remains the most requested office placement we make. Interior designers order this combination for corporate cabins constantly.

Where should Radha-Krishna or Pichwai paintings be hung?

Radha-Krishna artwork traditionally goes on the southwest bedroom wall to strengthen love and harmony between partners. Pichwai paintings of Shrinathji suit the pooja room, east wall, or living room, where their intricate detail becomes the room's focal point. Keep deity artwork out of bathrooms and never below eye level — devotional art should be looked up to, literally.

Does the size of a Vastu painting matter?

Vastu guidance concerns direction and imagery, not size — but proportion decides impact. A painting meant to anchor a wall's energy should command that wall, covering roughly 60–75% of the space above furniture. Every Khirki Vastu piece is custom-made, so send us your wall photo on WhatsApp and we'll size it exactly right.

Can Vastu paintings really change the energy of a home?

Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian science of space followed for centuries, and artwork is one of its gentlest remedies — working through imagery, colour, and direction rather than construction. Whether you follow it as belief or as design philosophy, Vastu-aligned art creates intentional, harmonious rooms. In our experience, the change people feel is real: a wall chosen with thought feels different from a wall filled by accident.

Vastu Myths vs Facts — Let's Clear the Air

A note from Amit: Instagram has added more "rules" to Vastu in five years than the tradition added in five centuries. Here's what's actually tradition and what's actually content.

Do the seven horses in a Vastu painting have to be white?

No — and this one makes us smile, because we hear it every week. Classical Vastu specifies the number (seven), the wall (south), and the motion (galloping forward, into your home). It says nothing about colour. White became popular for its association with purity, and somewhere along the way Instagram turned "popular" into "compulsory." In 30 years we've delivered brown, golden, and midnight-blue horses to homes that are doing just fine. Choose the horses whose energy you feel — that feeling is the point.

Must the seven horses painting show a sunrise?

No — a rising sun adds lovely symbolism of new beginnings, but it is not a Vastu requirement. What tradition emphasizes is horses galloping freely on open, solid ground with a clear path ahead. A dramatic sky, a golden dusk, or no sun at all — equally valid for the south wall. The horses carry the meaning; the sky is your aesthetic choice.

Does a mountain painting have to be a specific colour as per Vastu?

No. Vastu's guidance on mountains is about placement — behind your seat for support, or on the southwest/south wall for stability — not colour. The idea that mountains must be golden or snow-white is a modern social-media addition. The symbolism of solidity comes from the mountain itself; the palette should come from your interior.

Is it bad luck to buy a Vastu painting for yourself instead of receiving it as a gift?

No — there is no such rule anywhere in Vastu tradition. This myth circulates on social media but classical Vastu concerns imagery, direction, and placement, never how the artwork was acquired. Choosing a piece thoughtfully for your own home is not just allowed; it's the whole idea.

With so many rules and myths, how do I finally choose the right Vastu painting?

Use Vastu as your guide, not your fear. The tradition offers genuinely useful direction — where energy flows, which imagery uplifts, which placements support your goals. But it's your home and your office, and no classical text says prosperity comes from following rules anxiously. Prosperity begins with a space that brings you calm, confidence, and positive energy every time you walk in. Choose artwork whose direction follows Vastu and whose beauty follows your heart — when both align, you've chosen right. And if you're stuck between two pieces, send us both on WhatsApp; we'll tell you honestly what we'd hang.
